BPL’s First Youth Chess Tournament!
Yonatan Axelrad of New Britain Chess Club will supervise our first youth chess tournament on November 4.
Recommended for tweens and teens (ages 8 to 19). All skill levels welcome.
Space is limited. Registration is required.
Homeschool Fun Friday: Children’s Museum—Robotics (Prosser) (Fri., Nov. 6th, 1:00 PM)
Bloomfield Public Library is excited to once again partner with the Children’s Museum of West Hartford for Homeschool Fun Fridays! They will join us at Prosser on the first and second Friday of each month.
Friday Flicks and Fellowship: Red Fever (Prosser) (Fri., Nov 6th @ 2:00 PM)
Join us in the Prosser Community Room for a movie. Then, if you choose, stay afterwards for a chat about the film and meet some new friends or reconnect with your neighbors!
Red Fever (2024) follows Cree co-director Neil Diamond as he asks, “Why do they love us so much?” and sets out on a journey to find out why the world is so fascinated with the stereotypical imagery of Native people that is all over pop culture. A witty and entertaining feature documentary, the film explores the profound, yet hidden, Indigenous influence on Western culture and identity. Documentary. Runtime: 1h, 44m.

Teen Gaming @ Prosser (Fridays @ 2:30 PM)
Teens are invited to a drop-in gaming zone on Friday afternoons. No registration necessary—just pop into the Teen Room at Prosser Library and start the gaming fun!
Our starter games for Xbox and Nintendo Switch include Sonic the Hedgehog, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Super Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros. Teens are encouraged to let our staff what games they might like added.

“Dig it!” Hands-On Archeology Lab (Prosser) (Sat., Nov 7th @ 10:30 AM)
Unearth the past! Step into the role of archaeologist in this hands-on investigation of a Connecticut “excavation site.” Students will explore artifacts through interactive activities and then analyze excavation notes, maps, and artifacts. Participants will work together, looking at clues to figure out who lived at the site, dates, and what may have happened. Discover how archaeologists turn fragments of the past into full stories.
For ages 10 to 19. Registration is required as there is a limit of 24 participants.

Drawing and Writing with Graphic Novelist Adam Wallenta (Prosser) (Sat., Nov 7th @ 12:30 PM)
Have you ever wondered what it takes to create a graphic novel? Adam Wallenta will discuss his journey as a professional, the process of taking an idea from concept to published book, and how he created his award-winning Punk Taco graphic novel series with his sons. He will also conduct a drawing and writing demo and take questions from the audience. Adam will have copies available for purchase and is happy to sign them.

Intro to Weaving: Potholders for Tweens & Teens (Prosser) (Thur., Nov 12th @ 5:30 PM)
Calling all Tweens and Teens (grades 4-12): Learn a new skill and make a pair of potholders perfect for the holiday season! Whether you want to surprise your Thanksgiving hosts with a set, make some for holiday gifts, or start your own kitchen collection, we want to teach you how to make potholders using a simple loom and we have a variety of loops to choose from. This is a two hour program with hopes of completing a pair of potholders. Space is limited.
