BPL BookCon for Kids & Teens! (June 28 @ 4:00 PM + 6:00 PM) (330 Park Ave. / Great Room)

Join Bloomfield Public Library for it’s second “BookCon”…a book event for youth of all ages!

What is BookCon? The Bloomfield Public Library Book Conference – or “BookCon” – is a chance for kids, tweens and teens to select and go home with FREE books of all kinds (and a variety of extra goodies!). Kids visit the in-person BookCon event during one of the two timeframes (4-5:30 PM or 6-8 PM), and they can select all of the free things they’d like to take home…it’s as easy as that! Our event will take place offsite at 330 Park Avenue in Bloomfield (The Great Room A #128). No registration necessary.

PLEASE NOTE: This event is for youth – only kids and teens will be allowed to select books to take home! Adults/Teacher may select books ONLY in the final hour of the event from 7-8 PM. Read more >

Crafternoon: Upcycled Paper Dahlia Wreath for Teens/Adults (July 2 @ 2 PM) (Atrium)

“Read, Renew, Repeat” is the 2024 Summer Reading Theme, join us for an eco-friendly Crafternoon series for Adults and Teens (entering grades 7-12) at the BPL Atrium conference room! Limited space is available.

For this program, we will create a wreath from a discarded book. The only tools we’ll need are a hot glue gun and scissors. All materials and instruction will be provided. For teens and adults. Read more >

Crafternoon: Tile Magnets for Teens/Adults (July 16 @ 2 PM) (Atrium)

“Read, Renew, Repeat” is the 2024 Summer Reading Theme, join us for an eco-friendly Crafternoon series for Adults and Teens (entering grades 7-12) at the BPL Atrium conference room! Limited space is available.

At this program, we will create magnets using bathroom tiles and decorative paper. Optional: bring your own picture (1 7/8″ x 1 7/8″). Read more >

Take Great Photos with Your Smartphone for Teens/Adults (July 17 @ 2 PM) (Atrium)

This class is for those interested in producing high-quality images with their smartphone cameras. That means learning and understanding the camera controls as well as when and how to use them.

Everything necessary for taking great smartphone pictures will be addressed. You’ll receive a very complete handout when you arrive. It contains lots of information and will greatly simplify the process of understanding what’s being taught in class. You’ll also find it quite useful for review after the course has ended.

Don’t forget to bring your fully charged smartphone as well as any accessories you have, including the charger for your smartphone.

This is a 3 hour workshop for Adults and Teens (entering grades 7-12). Light refreshments will be provided. Limited space available. Read more >

Make a Zen Garden for Teens (July 18 @ 2 PM) (Atrium)

A Zen garden is a type of garden that originated in Japan centuries ago. It is designed to evoke a sense of tranquility, simplicity, and harmony with nature. Participants at this event will receive a container for your garden, along with materials such as sand, rocks, and a mini-rake. We’ll listen to meditative music and reflect on how our gardens can bring calmness to our daily lives. Open to students entering grades 7-12. Limited space available. Read more >

100 Signs for Everyday Use (5-Week Series; Ages 7+; Virtual) (July 24 @ 6:30 PM)

Due to popular demand, join us for this Sign Language Basics 5-week series held virtually. You will learn vocabulary-building and conversational signing. Open to youth ages 7 through Adult. Families are encouraged to sign up as one attendee and attend using the same Zoom log in, as space is limited.

If there is space available, join the series at any time. Choose the sessions that work for your schedule. Handouts with embedded practice videos are provided after class. Read more >

Tanglewood Marionettes presents CINDERELLA (July 26 @ 6:30 PM) (10 Wintonbury Ave)

Set in the eighteenth century and featuring a dozen lavishly costumed 30” marionettes, this production of Cinderella is a Tanglewood Marionettes showpiece. All your favorite characters are here, from gentle Cinderella to the bumptious stepsisters and the charming Prince. This telling is based on the original tale…with a few new surprises! A classic fairy tale told with wit and style, Cinderella is sure to please audiences of all ages.

For all ages, kids to adults! Registration is appreciated.

Sportstacking with Glenn Costello for Tweens/Teens (July 30 @ 1:30 PM) (330 Park, Gym)

SportStacking has been termed a “track meet for your hands at warp speed.” It’s an exciting sport where students up-stack and down-stack 12 specially designed cups called Speed Stacks in predetermined sequences as fast as they can. Stackers race against the clock. This is an interactive event where everyone watching the presentation gets involved in trying to SportStack themselves.
