Social Justice Book Club: They Called Us Enemy by George Takei (Virtual) (Tue., May 28th @ 6:30 PM)

These writing workshops are structured to address the key elements of writing and publishing your work. The first 30 minutes will be dedicated to writing – prompts are provided and writing time from 5 – 10 minutes per prompt. The next 45 minutes are dedicated to sharing and feedback. you can share one of the pieces you wrote in the first portion of the program, or bring copies of a poem or short prose to share. The last 15 minutes are an open discussion of should you publish, why or why not, how, and where. Read more >

It’s Never Too Late: Learning to Read as an Adult (Virtual) (Thur., May 30th @ 6:30 PM)

Join us as we engage in conversation with advocate and viral social media influencer Oliver James about the joys of literacy, the role of libraries, and how important it is to be a lifelong learner in community with other lifelong learners and readers. This program is presented in partnership with Second Chance Educational Alliance, Inc. and generously funded by Bloomfield Public Library Board of Trustees member Dr. Erin Corbett. Confronting Misinformation About Transgender and Gender-Diverse Populations (West Hartford Public Library) (Tue., June 4th @ 6:30 PM)

Gender-affirming care for the transgender and gender-diverse population is under attack. Misinformation and false information are being spread by politicians and social media. This program will clarify the truths and the lies, supported by reputable medical sources, mental health sources, and evidence-based studies. This will be a safe space to ask questions and have respectful discussions regarding gender-affirming care in our current environment. Read more >

Musical Fun with Judy Pancoast (June 5 @ 10:30 AM) (330 Park, Rm. 131)

Judy Pancoast, a Grammy-nominated Children’s Musician, will bring her special brand of musical fun to Bloomfield with her lively, interactive concert of all-original music that will have your kids involved from the first song. Her rapport with children is magical, and her energetic personality and clever lyrics make for a concert experience they’ll remember for a long time. Parents are encouraged to participate as well!

This program will take place at 330 Park Ave., Bloomfield (Rm. 131). Best for ages 5 and under. Registration is appreciated, but walk-ins are always welcome! Read more >
