There are many assets that help a library to flourish: a friendly and knowledgeable staff, an expansive collection of materials, entertaining and educational programs, and a building that is comfortable and welcoming. There is another key feature that makes a library great: the people who support it. If you want to be one of those people, here are some ways you can contribute to Bloomfield Public Library and make a difference.
Contribute to BPL’s Prosser Endowment Fund
Gifts play a crucial role in helping the library achieve its ever-expanding mission. This is a time of great transformation for public libraries, as we take aim at providing shared access to the latest technologies, information, and tools, while maintaining our traditional focus on books, media, and cultural enrichment. We must continually add to the notion of what a library is, without subtracting from the core of what we do.
If you would like to play a part in this exciting venture to reshape library services for the twenty-first century, please donate today. Whatever the future holds, one thing is certain: your generosity will greatly benefit the Bloomfield Public Library and its patrons!
A donation can be made via a check made out to Bloomfield Public Library, or you can contribute online through Pay Pal by clicking the Donate button. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover are all accepted. A Pay Pal account is not required.
Include the Library in Your Estate Planning
Planned giving can help ensure that the library has the resources it needs to remain a vital and evolving part of the Bloomfield community. Through bequests, beneficiary designations, and other forms of giving, you can ensure ongoing support for an institution dear to you. Please consult with your attorney or other advisers to review your gift options.
Join the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Libraries
The Friends of the Bloomfield Public Libraries is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to the support of the libraries through fundraising and advocacy. The Friends raise and receive funds in order to provide support for programs, materials and equipment that might not otherwise be made available. Visit the Friends of the Bloomfield Public Libraries page for more details.
Give a Gift and Honor Someone
The library welcomes donations in memory or honor of someone special. Monetary gifts are accepted, as are books and other materials that meet collection development guidelines. Monetary donations can be given with suggestions as to what is purchased with the funds. A plate with the person’s name will be placed on the purchased item, and, where requested, an acknowledgment letter will be sent.
Donate Your Books & Media
The Friends of the Bloomfield Public Libraries rely on your donations to help make their book sales successful. When the Friends succeed, the library succeeds. For more details about which items the Friends accept, please visit the Donate Books & Media page.
Buy a Book from the Friends
The Friends of the Bloomfield Public Libraries host book sales twice a year, in the fall and the spring. Additionally, the Friends sell books from carts year-round near the entrances of both libraries. Not only can you find a good book at a great price, but all proceeds from the sales go to help support library projects.
Volunteer Your Time
Dedicated volunteers help the library staff achieve the high level of service that our patrons have come to expect. By partaking in the Adopt a Shelf program, volunteers ensure that the library’s materials can be easily located. Volunteers also assist with a range of special projects tied to the library’s changing needs.
To enquire about volunteer opportunities, please complete the volunteer application and return it to one of the library’s service desks. For more information about volunteering, please call the library at (860) 243-9721, or email askbplct@gmail.com.
