Social Justice Book Club: ¡Hola Papi! by John Paul Brammer (Virtual) (Tue., June 25th @ 6:30 PM)

Our book club title for LGBTQIA+ Pride Month will be ¡Hola Papi! by John Paul Brammer. In this book, JP shares his story of growing up biracial and in the closet in America’s heartland, while attempting to answer some of life’s most challenging questions: How do I let go of the past? How do I become the person I want to be? Is there such a thing as being too gay? ¡Hola Papi! is a collection of life lessons for anyone—gay, straight, and everything in between—who has ever taken stock of their unique place in the world. Pick up a copy at the library, or read it on the Libby app. Read more >

Family Drag Queen Storytime (July 2 @ 5:30 PM) (Atrium)

Even though it’s July, we’re still celebrating PRIDE! BPL, in partnership with the Health Collective, is excited to invite you to a special family storytime at 5:30 PM. We’ll enjoy children’s stories, songs, and crafts with a local drag artist as we celebrate creativity and diversity beyond binaries and stereotypes. We will also have a story available to be read in Spanish! We will play, color, sing, dance, and have fun with our families and caregivers. Kids and their grownups are encouraged to come dressed to express their individuality – jammies, princesses, superheroes, whatever makes you YOU. No registration required.

Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is exactly that—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In these spaces, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish. Read more >
