Library Director’s Greeting

Library Director
Bloomfield Public Library (BPL) is in the process of planning new or modernized libraries to better serve you, our community. Your thoughts and needs are important to us as we move forward.
BPL staff, the BPL Board of Trustees, the Friends of BPL, and the Building Committee would like to thank the more than 1,600 people who responded to our survey about BPL’s future. Please stay tuned for more information about this project.
BPL tries very hard to provide the best service to our public at all times, and we are so thankful to those who have shown us gratitude and graciousness during this time. Please know that we have taken every precaution to keep staff and patrons safe as we continue to deliver services to our public.

We are proud to report that since the pandemic started, we have provided more than 80,000 materials on over 10,000 separate occasions curbside, BPL Online has experienced over 100,000 interactions with our public, and we have had more than 500 virtual programs attended by close to 10,000 people.
As a reminder, library cards are free for all from birth and open up the door for so many possibilities. But don’t just take it from us. Here are some reviews from your fellow residents:
“The BPL staff is fabulous in every imaginable and unimaginable way. My friend and I consider you all essential workers.” – Edith after checking out a Chromebook and hotspot
“Thanks, Jeffrey and BPL, for offering these terrific lectures to us while we all isolate.” – Nita after attending Zoom opera program
“As someone new to Bloomfield, I am so impressed with this community library. You are so accommodating and programmatic. Thank you for all you do.” – Carolyn
“Thank you so much for the books- my daughter’s favorite was the book about astronaut Mae Jemison. I put a bunch of more books on hold but thought that since we have finished this pile about scientists, perhaps next you could find some books about Black artists and dancers for us? Fiction and nonfiction are great.” – Renee
